I’ve decided to put this newsletter on hold for a few weeks to focus on other things. I’d like to take it slow(er) in August. Walk with friends. Swim with my kids. Their toy bins need cleaning out. Their bookshelves need refreshing (advice on what to do with all the baby books, please. I can’t imagine parting with so many of them. I can’t keep them forever. Like, where?).
Inventory has to be counted. Shipping supplies have to be re-ordered. The whole studio needs a deep sweep, and I have a high-rise I want to make that I think you’ll love.
I should, while I’m at it, organize the drawer in my closet full of bandanas, belts, and detachable bag straps. This will snowball, no doubt, into organizing the drawer full of sunglasses and small pouches, and so on, until my closet is a pristine gallery of garments falling into one of three essential clothing categories: Reliable, Exceptional, and Sentimental. That’s how it works, right? That’s all anyone needs, no? I’ll book the appointment with TheRealReal. I’ll make more space for beautiful balconette bras.
Do we ever embark on a holiday without the highest of hopes?
In reality, the kids’ health forms have to be sent to the after school programs. My husband is turning fifty soon and a party must be planned. We have so much to celebrate. Our health, way beyond all else. We just sold our New York apartment, but our sconces are still attached to the walls and I want them. I’ll go get them. Did you know I lived in New York for twenty years? When my family flew to Los Angeles in early March 2020 we didn’t think we’d move here. Sconces aren’t all that got left behind.
Jane on Jeans is a part of the business I launched four years ago with a single jumpsuit called Jump One. Both things – my clothing company and this Substack – are expressions of what I love to do; they support each other creatively and financially: Money I make from affiliate sales goes back into funding the development and production of new jeans. The Trip Jacket has sold out twice, thanks to you. I’m pushing my factory to hurry up and finish more Trips in all sizes. Yet another thing on the August to-do – restock.
Most of you know me for jeans, but the Jump One jumpsuit is where The Only Jane started, and right now it’s on sale in all colors. I recently wore the Midnight one with Jamie Haller loafers to dinner and felt super chic. It’s the easiest thing to throw on and be done. Skip the bra. The fabric is soft, it’s summer, it’s fine.
Last week’s Size Guide was a hit, so I’m working on doing one for the Georgia in Vintage Blue. At the top of my reading list: Deborah Levy’s Things I Don’t Want to Know, which I guess I should have read before The Cost of Living, but oh well. Can anyone recommend a hippie-dippy non-hot yoga studio in West Hollywood (honestly, when did all of the studios in L.A. go modern-infrared)? I’m self-improving this August. Last week, the woman at Striiike who does my eyebrows convinced me to tint my lashes, too, and skipping mascara has been its own brief buzz. The perfect thing for summer’s fleeting feelings. I’ll be back before you know it.
I may not be posting, but I will be answering questions about fit and sizing. Drop it in the Comments (it could help others). As always, thank you for reading, shopping, sharing, and caring. Denim forever.

The Georgia in Salt on women sizes 26 - 31 is a revelation. See it here.
Lazy jeans are drawstring jeans and I love them.
Remember that month I spent in London?
Enjoy your slow August! Much deserved! 💙🩵
Hi. How would you equate a size 26/27 Jean to one of your single digit sizes for the jumpsuits? Thank you
