Last week saw the second anniversary of this newsletter. That’s ninety-two posts and nearly 10K subscribers since I started with the idea to write about my favorite fashion thing: Jeans. I celebrated the actual day in the ancient city of Toledo, wandering its narrow streets and gasping at the ornate sculptures dripping from every inch of its 13th century High Gothic Cathedral. Though technically a Catholic church, the massive Cathedral honors Toledo’s history as a place once inhabited peacefully by people of Jewish, Muslim, and Christian faiths. Imagine that. It left me breathless.
Today’s post is simple: A Best Of to mark my 2-year milestone. Quickly, though, I want to show you this woman’s denim-on-denim look from the Barcelona-based brand Laagam because I saw her on the street and ordered her jeans in a lighter wash, here, as soon as I got home. Happy Birthday to Jane on Jeans!

Now, a look back at some of my most popular posts. If you’ve been with me from the beginning, I hope you’ll enjoy this scroll down memory lane. Those who recently joined – Welcome! – here’s what you may have missed. Because great jeans are timeless, there’s a lot we can still love in these stories. NOTE: I haven’t updated the links, but many are still active. If you’ve got the shoppies and want to browse all of my current favorites in one place, go to my Jean Bar, or curated ShopMy page.
What I wear to casual school drop-offs…
My Morning Jeans
This week? I had few appointments and much to do in my studio, which meant getting dressed quickly to take the kids to school, then wearing whatever I threw on in that moment for the rest of the day (versus hopping back home to get properly showered and dressed after drop-off, as I sometimes do). Funny enough, the half-baked grab-and-go approach was…fin…
The must-have spring jeans of 18 fashion Substackers…
Substackers' Jeans
What’s everyone wearing – or looking forward to wearing – now that fall is officially here? I’m seriously asking you. I know what I want: Undercover’s tinsel-trimmed baggies, which sadly, no one seems to have in stock. (Yes, I called Dover Street Market; and found the towel tote is available
My end-of-year recap for 2024…
24 Things I Loved Wearing with Jeans
I admit, I love an end-of-year recap. Because I’m sentimental about clothing and tend to wear the same things over and over again, thinking back on what I lived in this year is actually a decent way for me to reflect on what mattered. Or, at least, what fun I had. Everything on my list is here for a reason connected to – yet, bigger than – jeans. (Heads…
A dispatch on street style in Madrid…
Seeing More Than Jeans
Steps from my flat in Madrid’s Chueca neighborhood is a shop I walk by every day called BF by Beatriz Furest. In the windows, one mannequin wears a slim trench over a polo tee and putty-colored corduroys; another is in pleated, rose-hued gauchos and a loose-knit striped cardigan. Nice, but these clothes were never of interest to me. Until yesterday, whe…
How to dress up denim…
Night Jeans
Someone asked me recently about dress-up jeans. I said, “Denim that doesn’t scream ‘JEANS!’ and could pass as trousers in a dimly lit room.” Think black. A dark rinse. I sent a link to the Tory Burch pair I have with instructions to wear them with a belt. Problem solved.
It’s always great when you hit that heart button – I see it and it makes me feel good. Thank you for reading, for shopping, and being so into jeans with me. I’ll see you next week with new clothes and some reflections on living abroad with little kids. As always, Denim Forever.
Jane
I always have the shoppies.
Congrats Jane! Love your substack and all of your denim tangents. Especially enjoying your Madrid stories. A big fan.
