Aaaaaaaaaaaand, I’m back. I must be because a.) Work ramped up big-time this week, and b.) I want to shop. Not for sewing trinkets and flamenco dresses, but for American-designed clothes. And jewelry. Things that feel familiar but are also new and beautiful and great to wear right now at this moment in the city I call home.
These 7 pieces make a deliciously packable summer uniform. Everything goes with everything – the jewelry goes with the top that goes with the pants, right down to the toes that show in the sandals, all with this jacket I’m suddenly seeing everywhere. Bonus rec: Girls’ pajamas that double as play-wear, for those nights in the backyard when the sun is still up at bedtime. Bedtime? We’re cart-wheeling on the grass at dusk over here, and I am just relishing these days.
Those of us who love Sherman Field will flip upon hearing that Danielle Sherman is launching a silk corded necklace collection with some of her best-loved pearls and medallions IN SILVER. Do you know what this means? Friendlier prices, yes. But also, even more SF for everyday. I just want it all.

The cord necklaces, which come in 3 colors with a key ring and silver tips, can be worn alone (above), or embellished with charms (below; the key ring opens to clip-on pearls and pendants). Lucky me, Danielle let me try some, and the square medallion with the tiny diamond in the lower left corner now has my heart. Pre-order for delivery in early August. It’s just around the corner.

A White Poplin Shirt
The white shirts I want to wear this summer are not your standard button downs, oh no. They are smocked, embroidered, and dotted with pearls. What’s another word for “crisp” because “crunchy” doesn’t cut it (thank you, no thank you, Webster’s Thesaurus); that’s the cotton I’m talking about. This one with a sailor collar from Simone Rocha is at the top of my list. Second place goes to it’s polar opposite: A broderie anglaise-trimmed polka-dot camisole. To wear with No.3 …

Block Print Drawstring Pants
I didn’t mention Aunty B while I was living in Madrid because it’s not authentic to madrileña style. It is, however, the most wonderful shop for the most beautiful block print clothes and textiles from India. The yellow pants (below) were my best purchase, but the tablecloths and pashminas are all exceptional, too. They will ship internationally (I’ve already ordered – got these – and I’ve only been back a minute.) Honestly, I wish I had a pair for every day of the week. This set also nails the vibe. And of course, John Robshaw does it best for the home.

P.S. For years, I’ve been putting my kids in pajamas from Nights by Wilder, which makes wonderful block print sets and dresses. Soft and breezy, but also proper, they’re as darling straight out of the bath as they are with bedheads first in the morning. Look at these, these and oh! These!
I name-dropped this bag in last week’s post, but I’m giving it a bigger moment here because I can’t stop thinking about it and love that someone thought to photograph Nili Lotan herself toting it through an airport terminal. Effective marketing. I’m sold.

Yes. It is noticeably good and it makes a big difference, and if I become a person who always has a bottle of Hermés polish in my handbag in case I happen to have time to pop in for a pedicure between meetings and school pickups (though, who do I think I am? A New Yorker?), great. I never want to put another enamel on my toes ever again.

And to show the world my perfect pedicure: These Emme Parsons sandals that make a very naked foot look extremely sexy. (Isn’t the suggestion of nudity so much more enticing than nudity itself? Says a women who also thinks full-coverage white tees are the epitome of hot.) But I love this shoe and will get a pair and report back.

P.S. Emme Parsons is having a 40% off SALE. I’d buy these or these with the pretty toe ring.
A Denim Bomber Jacket
Never heard of them just two weeks ago and now I see them everywhere. To me, a denim bomber is to the trucker jacket what a drawstring jean is to the classic five pocket: A simple fabric re-application that’s super relaxed and nods to track suits. Remember how much I ended up loving drawstring jeans last summer? I still love my drawstring jeans. Sometimes, when it’s outrageously functional and comfortable, the trendy thing sticks.
One more thing I want that’s worth mentioning: I want the ICE raids to end. I grew up in Southern California and living among non-white citizens and immigrants and their families is as home a feeling as any I know. Yesterday saw some good news. I’m grateful for it. Thank you for reading. See you next week and again, and always, Denim Forever.

In case you missed it…
Thoughts about being back in L.A.
Everything I packed for a trip to a private island in the Grenadines.
Still one of my favorite mom-talks.
The silver from Sherman Field!!! I love the navy cord.
Yes yes yes to all of this. Hermes polish for life! And ooooh SF newness. And also: Fuck ICE forever.
