Hi Jean, thanks for answering my q about raw v selvedge. I too think of cowboys. I'm in love with barrels. Have been for some time now. I'm love with your Sid's. I'm a curvy size 31 and even "petiter" ( is this a word?) than you. But Sid's are way out of my present caregiving lifestyle. I content myself with Free People's Good Luck Barrel Jeans. They come in a range of fantastic washes. The price is a perfect for a trend. IMHO

Check them out: https://www.freepeople.com/shop/we-the-free-good-luck-mid-rise-barrel-jeans/. Even in showy metallics

(size up) and washed thinner striped and white paint splattered summery ones: https://www.freepeople.com/shop/we-the-free-good-luck-mid-rise-stripe-barrel-jeans/

De nada....jjjj

Love the idea of wearing super oversized 501s in this way even if I am slightly worried about how this would look from behind!

I appreciate your validation of the awesomeness of the B Sides vintage Lassos.

I have lusted for them for a couple of years and finally bought them 2 weeks ago. They are somehow so fabulous, repurposed, weird, cropped, comfy...

Hi Jane, Jane Gruber here. Was an early buyer of two of your JumpOnes and recently became a paid subscriber of your newsletter. It is so great and I have recommended it to a lot of friends. I also took your tip and bought those Levi’s redlines from What Goes Around Comes around that you linked and they are great. Even got them 20% off! Yay! Bringing them to a specialist Levi’s restorer here in San Francisco today to get them spruced up. I was going to get them OG hemmed, but now seeing your cuff and can’t make up my mind. Anyway, just saying thanks for all the great content and research! Sincerely, the other Jane!

Hi Jane! Nice to see you here :) Who is this specialist in SF you speak of? I'm so happy you bought those redlines and love them. Yes to cuffing, especially if you can get a good 4-5 inches deep. I appreciate this note so much, thank you!

Her name is Lindsey Hansen and she does repair on vintage Levi’s and also sells them. She seems to know a lot about jeans and is super sweet.

Her business is called “the future past” on Clement and Arguello in SF. I brought four pairs of jeans to her today for repairs and adjustments.

She’s also on IG.

Do we think this trend has staying power? I'm loving it!

I don't think barrels will be skinny jean-level ubiquitous (can you imagine everyone at, say, the airport, wearing barrels? Probably not), but any style rooted in real vintage has lasting value.

I always love your newsletter but hung on every word of this issue — I am a huge fan of Meg’s and perpetually looking for the right 501’s; your cuffing makes me want to get a pair to do that as well. I have been trying barrel legs but find my shape (waist nearly same size as hips - cut like a boy and menopause didn’t help) does not lend itself to the high rise.

Thank you, Christine. I imagine Meg could find you a pair that cuff. DM her! There are some barrels that aren’t so high in the rise. The Lasso, for one (and they do a version that’s not cropped, btw). But the look isn’t for everyone and that is OK!

Re barrel jeans, “baggies” were a thing circa 1982, and they were very similar…perhaps a bit less bow-legged? And narrower in the ankle.

I'll need to look those up! Thanks Anne. x

I have yet to find the perfect style of jean for me and I think the barrel leg might be just it! I hadn’t heard about them until just a few months ago and now I am on the hunt for the perfect one for me!

I remember! My eye is still getting used to identifying real indigo v synthetic. Yes! The lemon yellow stitching! I noticed it, and was surprised to see it mixed with the orange (pigskin) thread. Blue thread around the button holes. Was the lemon yellow used only on the fly, or elsewhere? Appreciate your expertise.
