I LOVE THIS JANE!!! I would love a deep dive into all the places to buy/things to consider when looking at vintage Levi's online? I see some that look amazing, but honestly never know how to determine what's a high-quality find when you're not inspecting in person.
Denim is my BFF, so excited for this newsletter. Question, what are your fave chambray shirts - not shackets, although I would love a round up of your fave denim jackets too - just shirts for the perfect Canadian Tuxedo?! 💙
Thank you, Alesia – roundups of chambray shirts and jackets are great ideas. My personal favorite chambray shirt is an old J.Crew men's one. I generally prefer men's chambray shirts to women's as they tend to feel sturdier and more utilitarian. I also like to wear my chambray shirts on the bigger side. A refreshed roundup is in order! Thank you for the suggestion.
Thank you, Kate! I'm working on a story about where to shop online for great vintage Levi's like mine (and in general ). I don't feel confident recommending anything comparable to my pair, just yet... stay tuned. It's coming. Thank you so much for reading.
Quite like this Jane! Your newsletter will be my first real deep dive into the world of jeans. I wear them every day, but I was never very aware of all their strengths and their history. Do you think you’ll explore men’s fashion sometime in the future?
I’ve never found a pair of jeans that fit me. Curious if you have thoughts. 5’3” wide hips and thick thighs, small-ish waste and what I find is that my knee never works for normal placement. It’s alllllllways a few inches lower than where designers place the knees in their denim design. I wear a 29 in most jeans but once again they don’t really fit in the knee ever. Ugh - help!!!!
The leg shape is important when you're shorter (I have the same issue). Bell bottoms are hard for me. Straight legs would probably be best for you – try Laura's Annina jeans from Citizens of Humanity (featured in this letter). Get the 31" inseam. You'll likely have to shorten them, still, but that's doable (just ask the tailor to do "original hems." If they don't know what that is, go elsewhere.). Opt for a uniform wash (no holes and no distressing on the upper thigh). I hope this helps!
