You could wear your "night jeans" outfits to any city in the world for dinner. You'd be overdressed in Ojai though! I've been obsessing over that same bag that Jennifer introduced. Can I ask how you decided on the biscuit? I'm sort of leaning towards the gold - I have a thing for white top-stitching.
I chose the biscuit color because I wanted something that would complement my new belts without matching them. Honestly, the moment it arrived I wanted another one in black. (I resisted, I’m not a lunatic.)
Question about jean lengths - I know you’ve mentioned before that you have your tailor hem jeans so the bottom is grazing the floor in flats. Does this approach also apply to some of the jeans in this post that are cut more like trousers? Or do you keep them longer? Thank you!
Great question. All of these jeans either came with a short inseam or were hemmed by that guiding rule EXCEPT for the Tory’s, which I also like to wear cuffed, so I never had them hemmed. Unless you have a jean that can be cuffed for flats, or let out for a low heel, my rule still applies.
I love your style Jane and avidly read your newsletter, but am increasingly feeling Substack is becoming a high-end brand ghetto for wealth/er people. I feel it's changed in the last 6-months especially as newsletters are increasingly behind a pay-wall. I find this ethos somewhat incongruous with the origins of denim as workers clothing, but that's a separate issue I guess! I'm not sure how many people substack now speaks to....maybe it's just me but thought I'd put it out there anyway.
Hi Hatty. Thank you for this comment, it’s totally valid. There ARE great Substacks dedicated to thrifting and style beyond big budgets. Me, personally, I like to reinforce the fact that I wear the same jeans again and again. But check out Gumshoe and A Tiny Apt. - two excellent Substacks I think you’ll appreciate.
Thank you for this, Jane! Great balance of glam and real life practicality in your outfits. I have the Celine Kitty and have been looking for new ways to wear. Love seeing posts where you revisit pairs from previous letters and show how you've been styling them!
These are all beautiful outfits for evening. I love the styling and feel very inspired! Could you share who designed the ring in the top photo and the longer charm necklace in the second photo?
Thanks for reading Rachel! The rings are stacked: 2 gold bands that my mom gave me, with a star sapphire ring from Prounis. The gold string necklace is from Pippa Small.
Jane I LOVE how you always include the Gianvitto Rossi Chester boots - they are one of my top buys in the last five years and I love the way you styled them perfectly with your all black and LV wallet too. Inspired! x

I love both the writing and the styling so much! The way you layer that camisole! Exclamation mark x 3!
Always means a lot coming you Rachel xx

Thanks so much for reading!
Love! And the Michino bag looks incredible.
All the jeans look great, I’m denim obsessed…can you share sizing thoughts on the pair from Gap?
I took my true size (24) and they FIT. You could size up if you want a looser feel.
Amazing post! What size are you wearing in the Issey Miyake?
I bought it secondhand and there is no size listed on the tag. Most likely, it’s a small.

It’s such a good boot! I get a lot of wear out of it, too.
