I love hearing your story β itβs an inspiration to all of us who are coming to terms with the fact that dreams take time β and have adored following your design progression since the jumpsuit became a reality!
The truth is, I'm not sure making my own jeans would have ever happened had I stayed in that marriage. So the pause (such a nice way to put it) was worth it. I hope you are on the other side of the worst of your breakup now. xx
Hey lady, you know I loved jean stories. I knew that you were going through a divorce (not sure how I knew but I knew) and then when I went through my own I thought of you. Thanks for sticking to what youβve loved all these years-very generous considering itβs the rest of us that benefit.
Jean Stories was my favorite website for ages - I was so sorry when you stopped posting, but it makes perfect sense given what was going on in your life. I was so happy to find you here as denim has been my longest, truest relationship, and itβs hard finding people who can speak about it with the same passion as they do, say, motherhood or real estate. Thanks for sharing the inside scoop with all of us who find rivet placement and your writing about it just as fascinating!
Thank you for sticking with me here Jennifer! Funny, I am very passionate about motherhood, too, but itβs really hard for me to write about. Wonder what that is π€. Probably because itβs still new to me and jeans are something I feel way more confident talking about? I really appreciate this note.
Love hearing more about your journey! Thank you for sharing - even the uncomfortable parts - because hey, arenβt those parts what push us (the most) towards the best parts?! π«ΆπΌ
When you're buying jeans online and you're looking at the waist measurements provided, how do you know what size to go for? Jeans that are a couple inches bigger than your actual waist so you can breathe? I keep messing up!
Iβll give you an example that I hope helps to answer this very good question: On my jean (the Georgia), the waist circumference at the top of the waistband on a size 27 is 31.5β. This style is designed to sit under the belly button (itβs not a high rise) so the 4.5β difference is more than what you might find on a high rise, which sits closer to the middle and narrowest part of the waist. Generally, 3-4 inches more than the size number is a good measurement. But it really depends on how the jean is intended to fit.
Jane you rock! I love your humble and honest attitude and writing. Iβve never met you and surprisingly this is the first time I have read your stories, and archive. Wow! π€―. You are inspiring and I love these jeans. What I love most is the softness aspect you speak of. Iβve done the whole APC denim in the ocean π and then in the freezer to clean lol same with a stylist friends jeans that just wonβt βbreak inβ. My partner says no more jeans I have Japanese Selvedge that were a gift from a designer and Celine, Lemaire etc, but something about these really speak to me. I love that they are long enough 31β for a tall glass too. Thank you!
Indeed! I truly appreciate what you are doing and love jeans. I wrote one substack take a look if you want. There are many more to come I just need to legitimately set up a block of time. Anyway itβs about dead stock, Canal Jeans, and FiT as a teenager in 98
I don't understand how your Jeans, which are length 31 on sizes 27-32, are more than long enough on your 5'11" model. It doesn't make sense to me. I wear a 33 length and am 5'9". hummmm
I only know what I fit in person, with the measurements I am given. N'Dia's legs could be shorter than yours (she's 5'11"). And they are a bit cropped on her.
Jean Stories was a fave and I still have bookmarked. Thanks for the throwback references of Fred Segal, Earl and the iconic Current/Elliott boyfriend jeans. I still have my Earl jean jacket and the boyfriend jeans. Looking into the Georgia jean. Appreciate the various sizes on different shapes. Thanks!
I loved Jean Stories! Was sorry when it ended, but I know nothing last forever and people have to grow and evolve on the meandering journey that is life!

I appreciate this so much Christine, thank you.
Having just gone through a divorce I really resonated with the need for financial and emotional security. Dreams can be paused for better timings! x

Thanks Jane, was brutal but am out the other side (just!) Really resonate with what youβre saying here β₯οΈ

I have followed you since Jean Stories. I loved it! I love denim and you talk about it like no one else does!

Iβm glad you kept Jean Stories as an archive. I still go back and look at it sometimes. It was a great, great project

Thank you for sticking with me here, Debi!
I have them in two sizes and wear both often. They're my favorite jeans! So soft, comfortable, and I love the way they drape.
An endorsement from you, Kathy, is everything. Thank you for being such a loyal reader and wonderful customer. xx
