Not surprised that Hedi's Celine is pumping out good denim. He's the father of Skinny Jeans, right?
Question for you Jane: This post is about expensive jeans, but they're also all Luxury design house jeans (jeans are not as core to their business as some other brands like B Sides). Many of your other posts are kind of in that range of jeans that are not luxury but not High Street. What about brands that make jeans exclusively, that are high quality, maybe expensive, that focus on giving you a pair for the long-term that will grow with you? I know your brand has this ethos :) Maybe that's a utopian request and capitalism doesn't allow for it, but I thought I would ask.
I'll be honest – I do not recommend taking vintage jeans to a tailor that does not specialize in denim. To do the kinds of alterations that Lenny, or the tailors at Denim Revival, do? This requires a specialist.
You might ask Foxhole (in LA) if they can help. Maybe you can ship your jeans to Fox, the seamstress/master of denim alterations, and she can consult on what to do, if she has your measurements? Or maybe she can match alterations to a pair you have that fits properly? It’s worth asking.
Would you expect these jeans to last longer (or perhaps a better way of framing it is wear better?)? I suppose I assume longevity is not the variable here accounting for the price , but rather design and fit? Or maybe all of the above? Ha, lots of questions!
Hi Athalie, The high quality and construction of these jeans would lead me to believe that they will hold up over time. I have to hope this is something luxury brands think about with their jeans (just as they do their handbags, for example). Any jean that is 100% cotton – and the Celines are – should last a long time and weather nicely. (The elastane in stretch denim compromises the integrity / strength of any pair of jeans.) I suppose only time will tell if they hold up. Maybe I should report back in 6 months :)
I loooove Free People's new cowboy wide super puddle unhemmed jeans. They're technically not denim. They are Lyocell, which means soft and drapey in the most beautiful deep blue black "midnight" ever. Like bathed in a swath of ink puddling and draping on you.
Great post!! I have been wanting a pair of margiela denim 4eva, but just can’t pull the trigger. Maybe I will now 😅
I was thinking about the Gucci pair. I wonder if you would have bought them in one of their stores if they would have hemmed them and then distressed them? I used to work in alterations at a nice department store and we would do that for some extra picky clients.
Thank you for reading. I do have a picture, but I don't think I can put it in the comments. Do you have the Substack app? I can put it in the JOJ Chat. Or send me an email info@theonlyjane.com and I'll reply with the photo.
It's Bode!
Those Bottega jeans are gorgeous!!!

Great question. Nudie is a brand like that - they do lifetime repairs and trades. I’ll have to see if there are others…
Those Celine jeans are perfect. 😍 😫
You know what I would love to learn about?
I would love to learn how to alter my vintage jeans without ruining them. Like what tweaks work?
Basically being able to tell my tailor what to do like maybe Lenny is doing. I’m afraid to do anything other than hems.

I get it. That’s the problem. I live in Atlanta and we don’t seem to have one. So if there was a guide that would help! Until then I am wearing belts.

I love it! Great idea
Have been debating looking at Celines. If they make a size above 28
The Celine website has a size 29. But yes, I know what you mean. x
Lol maybe I'll make it 🤣
Shall we petition?
No worthier cause 🤣
Omg those kitty Celine jeans look divine on you👌🏽👌🏽😻😻
Wow those Celine jeans!!!
The beaded pearl top you’re wearing with the Saint Laurent jeans is so cool! Where is it from?

I love them and have worn them ad nauseam. And for the price?
My comment was in response to Jane’s post and her selections ( especially those Celines!)
Fabulous info—thanks! P.S. Unless you're talking about eggs, it's yoke, not yolk.
Nancy – thank you for the correction. Hat tip in the Footnote.

https://www.freepeople.com/shop/old-west-slouchy-jeans? Only $128. High rise though. Which I hate. I'm a forever frozen in amber quasi hippie of the 70's.
I bought white Phoebe Philo jeans this year and they are life altering 😘
Need to see these x
Getting shortened now and sharing asapppp - I “miss them” while they’re being tailored. That good.

That’s a great question I wouldn’t have thought to ask. I’ve never seen a store offer that! Smart.
Hi! I am a new subscriber. Love your content. Do you have a pic of the Celine low rise you mentioned?

Thank you! I don't have the app. I will send an email.
