I like to name the jeans I design after the people who have made me a better, more complete person. The Georgia, as many of you know, was named partly in honor of Georgia O’Keeffe, whose pioneer spirit and personal style helped shape my longterm aspirations, especially as they apply to the home. The Georgia is also for my daughter Georgia, whom I love without limits and whose incomparable essence has turned me soft and strong in ways I never saw coming.

Today, I am adding two new styles to The Only Jane’s denim collection: The Sally, named for my friend, the beloved fashion editor and all-time champion of creative beauty and truth, Sally Singer. And the Bob, for Bob Dylan, who needs no explanation, and whose songs have a direct line to my heart. (The haircut I’ve had my whole life is also a bob; the word just feels right in my bones.)
Those who know Sally, and there are a few of you here, know that her mentoring of ambitious-but-quiet young talent is unique in the fashion industry. I wouldn’t be doing any of this – writing, designing, business-building – the way I do now without her direction and influence. When fitting the Sally jean – a totally authentic high-rise in the clearest, cleanest indigo blue; a foundational style that supports pieces both essential and eccentric – Sally, the person, came instantly to mind. A city jean for a city girl. Real and beyond any box. I hope you’ll try it.

The Sally and the Bob are made of 100% cotton denim, sourced from an American mill (Mount Vernon, for all you nerds). Both styles have hidden rivets in the back pockets, something my factory tried to talk me out of on numerous occasions because they’re costly and you can’t even see them (that is, until they start breaking through the denim, making those pocket corners look all worn and gorgeous.) To me, hidden rivets are a wink at a vintage tradition that’s worth it.
The Bob – a good name for a shorter jean, don’t you think? – is my answer to the barrel. Instead of darts, I used a twisted seam to create a concave bend in the legs. The wash, which I’m calling Big Sky, is a lightly weathered, atmospheric fade. I spent a lot of time getting it just right.

To go with these jeans – or any jeans, honestly – I’ve made my best-selling Trip Jacket in Jet black. Cut in the softest 100% cotton denim (Italian; same as the original version in Salt), this Trip is easy to wear anywhere – school drop-off, dinner, or under a winter coat. This month, I’m wearing it like a shirt, buttoned up with the sleeves rolled once. The Large and X-Large sizes fit men. Tell your hot husbands, ladies and gents.

I feel really proud of these jeans. At trunk shows in Los Angeles during the holidays, I had the pleasure of seeing them on friends and family and Wow, do they fit. The general feedback I’ve received is that the Sally sizes like the Georgia, and the Bob runs a little bit big. So, size down in the Bob if you want it to really hug your waist. I’ve seen some women cuff the Bob, and it’s cute, but if you prefer a properly cropped leg I recommend getting them altered above the ankle (original hems, please). As always, I’m in the comments answering questions about grading and fit. I love hearing from you.

Last thing before I leave you to shop: I made a mini tote and I’m including one with all full-price orders while supplies last. It’s the perfect thing to help organize the contents of a bigger bag and fits more than you’d think (phone, keys, wallet, a paperback book or, for me, a Smythson Diary). My kids love it and I’d bet yours will, too. A gift to thank you for being here and trusting me with your jeans. It is the greatest honor.

Liking this post is a terrific way to support my work and show you care. Thank you for reading and, as always, Denim Forever.

If my eyes are seeing right all your new jeans have inseam and « outseam » double felled seams … which I love and didn’t even know could be a design choice until I got my Georgia jeans a while ago. There’s something subtle but finished and structured about this choice. Your attention to detail is impeccable. I’m excited to try this new launch and have been awaiting it since last year ….
All of your jeans look great and I’d love to try them. It’s just so disappointing that they don’t come any larger than 31. I’m 5’11” and modeled in my younger years when I was 120 pounds, but at 57 I now wear a 32 or 33 and I’ve never seen those sizes offered. Any chance you will increase your size range in the future? Thank you.
