I’m a fan of the Footnote - not just because I am a writer and it’s super clever, but because it perfectly punctuates your advice. Brava!

Wow those flat Mary Jane's are taking me back to the early aughts when all the cool nyc fashion girls were wearing the cheap fabric printed Mary Jane's from Pearl street market in China town with their slip skirts. Love the more adult version!

Yes! That was a good moment – I was in NYC at that time, interning. Idolizing those cool girls.

Love the footnote (and the shoe - burgundy velvet, yes please!). Great article, and I love the inclusion of Madewell jeans in this newsletter as they have slightly more inclusive sizing than some other denim labels and thus might be a bit more accessible to a larger cohort of readers :)

I love your jean cinching! Cooler than wearing a belt, in my eyes. I wonder if a tiny metal carabiner could give you an alternate version with the same effect?

Lisa, hi. I once saw Adam Selman do a similar trick with a bandana, which he strung through multiple belt loops and tied in a knot on his hip. You would have appreciated it. The carabiner-like clip is a great idea – it would need to be adjustable... let me think on that. With a ribbon, I find it works best when the belt loops on either side of the top button are close together (not all belt loops are). Always so nice to hear from you xx

What size did you choose for the Flora jeans?

Size 25, which is good, but I could probably get away with a 24 for a tighter waistline.

Was wearing a pair of too-big jeans today and tried your cinching trick with a small piece of rope and it worked perfectly and looked so cute! What timing!

Ooooh, rope is a great idea.

Rope is a great idea! My daughters use shoelaces.

I recently read that belts are too classic looking worn with jeans and haven't stopped pondering this idea! So I'm interested in other ways to cinch my jeans, because a number of them are falling down.

I used scarves in college! I may need to revisit.

Thank you! Great idea. I ordered a men's ring belt off of Ssense last night, made of fabric. Wondering if it'll make things more interesting.

Just received the belt and it was a fail! I’ll have to try the ribbon method. Every time I’m in a denim store, the sales associates tell me to size down, but I always seem to regret doing so. Weight fluctuations and the fact I like a slouchy fit. But then again, it’s annoying pulling them up!

Part of what makes a scarf an interesting belt is the variety of different ways to tie it! Knot vs bow, etc...
